Apple has unveiled the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, featuring the powerful A18 Pro chip and new design elements, including the Camera Control button. According to Apple, these models also boast a significant boost in battery life. The Pro Max model includes a larger 6.9-inch display, making it the biggest iPhone ever, while the Pro comes with a 6.3-inch screen. Both phones feature Apple’s thinnest bezels and a durable titanium frame.
The iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max will be available in four colors: black, natural, white, and desert titanium. Apple will start taking pre-orders on September 13, and release the phones on September 20. The iPhone 16 Pro starts at $999, while the Pro Max starts at $1,199.
A18 Pro Chip and Improved Performance
The A18 Pro chip promises 20% better-sustained performance compared to previous models. Built on a 3nm process, the chip includes a 16-core Neural Engine and a 6-core GPU, offering a 20% speed increase and 17% more memory bandwidth. Apple claims the CPU is 15% faster and uses 20% less power than its predecessor, making it the fastest chip in any smartphone.
Camera and Camera Control Features
The new 48 MP main camera features a quad-pixel sensor that supports 4K video recording at 120fps in Dolby Vision. The phones also introduce spatial photo and video capabilities. Camera Control, a touch-sensitive button, allows users to adjust zoom, exposure, and depth of field easily. Visual Intelligence features will be added later, enabling users to learn about objects and places by simply tapping the Camera Control.
Additional Features
Both models offer satellite connectivity for sending texts and emojis via iMessage or SMS when outside cellular coverage. Apple’s new Apple Intelligence features will be available as a software update later, bringing tools like audio transcription, smarter Siri capabilities, and more.
