Apple’s latest operating system, iOS 18, was unveiled at WWDC 2024 earlier this month and is already making waves with its AI-driven enhancements. Developers have gained early access to the beta version, prompting quick testing of its new features, including the CoreML engine that powers machine learning tasks.
A notable test by a developer known on X as @lafaiel highlighted a significant performance boost. The machine learning capabilities of an iPhone 15 Pro Max saw a 25% increase in efficiency under iOS 18 compared to the previous iOS 17.5.1. The Geekbench ML Score for the device rose from 6,249 to 7,816 following the update, showcasing a notable improvement in processing power.
While these benchmark results are promising, such improvements’ practical, real-world impact can vary. However, the enhanced performance clearly indicates Apple’s focus on integrating more robust AI features into its devices.
As Apple gears up to launch the iPhone 16 series this September, alongside the stable release of iOS 18, users of older iPhone models can also look forward to experiencing these advancements.
