HMD Global, known for its portfolio of entry-level smartphones, is reportedly set to enhance its product range with a new mid-tier offering. The upcoming model, HMD Atlas, is expected to deliver upgraded features, including an FHD+ display and a robust battery, marking a significant step up from its recent releases.
The HMD Atlas is poised to be powered by the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset, supporting 5G connectivity and equipped with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of expandable storage. This configuration also includes Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.1, and NFC capabilities. Notably, according to leaks from Twitter user @smashx_60, the device will retain the increasingly rare 3.5mm headphone jack.
In terms of display, the Atlas will feature a 6.64-inch IPS LCD with a 120Hz refresh rate, incorporating a 16MP selfie camera within a punch-hole design. The rear camera setup will include a 48MP main sensor complemented by a 5MP ultra-wide lens and a depth sensor, enhancing its photographic capabilities compared to the simpler HMD Pulse and Vibe models.
The smartphone is also set to house a 5,500mAh battery supporting QuickCharge 4.0+, although specific charging rates have not been disclosed. Dimensions for the device are listed at 163 x 75 x 8.75mm, with a weight of 210g.
Priced at approximately $240, the HMD Atlas will reportedly be available in an Olive Green variant. This positions the Atlas as a more feature-rich option than the $150 HMD Vibe, which offers more basic specifications.
In addition to the Atlas, HMD is rumoured to be developing further models, including the budget-friendly HMD Ridge and HMD Waylay, as well as the higher-end HMD Xenon and HMD Skyline. These additions suggest a strategic expansion of HMD’s smartphone offerings across various market segments.
