If you have recently imported a mobile phone or brought one from abroad, registering it with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) is mandatory. Failure to register within 60 days will result in your device being blocked from all local mobile networks.

Here is the updated 2026 guide on how to register your mobile phone with PTA, check your IMEI, and pay the necessary taxes.

Step 1: How to Check Your IMEI

Before registration, you need your device's unique 15-digit IMEI number. You can find it by:

  • Dialing Code: Open your phone dialer and dial *#06#.
  • Device Settings: Go to Settings > About Phone > Status.
  • Box/Back: Check the original packaging box or the sticker on the back of your phone.

Step 2: Check Registration Status

To see if your phone is already PTA approved or requires registration:

  • SMS: Send your 15-digit IMEI to 8484.
  • DVs App: Download the "Device Verification System" (DVS) app from the Play Store or App Store.
  • Website: Visit the official DIRBS portal.

Step 3: How to Register (4 Methods)

Method 1: Dialing *8484# (USSD)

  • Dial *8484# from your mobile.
  • Select "Register Mobile Device" (Option 1).
  • Enter your CNIC/Passport number and IMEI.
  • You will receive an SMS with a PSID (Payment ID) and the tax amount.

Method 2: Using the DIRBS Website

  • Visit https://dirbs.pta.gov.pk/drs.
  • Create an account and log in.
  • Select "Individual COC" and enter your device details.
  • Generate a PSID for tax payment.

Method 3: DVS Mobile App

  • Log into the DVS app.
  • Follow the on-screen prompts to "Register Device."
  • Upload scanned copies of your ID/Passport if requested.

Method 4: Mobile Franchise/Customer Center

  • Visit any Jazz, Zong, Telenor, or Ufone customer service center.
  • Bring your original CNIC, Passport, and the mobile device.
  • The staff will process the registration for you.

Paying the PTA Tax

Once you have your PSID, you can pay the tax via:

  • Online Banking: Use your bank app's "Bill Payment" or "GOP Tax" section.
  • ATMs: Pay at any bank ATM using the 17-digit PSID.
  • Mobile Wallets: EasyPaisa or JazzCash apps.
  • Bank Branches: Visit any major bank (NBP, ABL, MCB, etc.) with your PSID.

Important Tips for 2026

  • Temporary Registration: Overseas Pakistanis and foreign tourists can register their phones for 120 days for free (no tax) during each visit.
  • 60-Day Deadline: You must register a new imported phone within 60 days of inserting a local SIM to avoid blocking.
  • Dual SIM: Ensure you register both IMEI numbers if your phone has dual SIM slots.

Note: PTA does not collect taxes directly. All payments go to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). Always verify the tax amount on the official 8484 response.
