WhatsApp services worldwide, including in Pakistan, have been restored after being suspended for about 2 hours.
According to the website down detector, which continuously monitors websites, messaging platform WhatsApp’s services were suspended for users during the afternoon hours.
A report shared by the Downdetector website said that the services of the social networking website were suspended in the afternoon hours.
In Pakistan, WhatsApp topped the trending list on the social networking website Twitter, with more than 60,000 mobile phone users expressing their concerns about its shutdown.
The most popular social networking application, WhatsApp services, was suspended in neighbouring India.
A spokesperson for Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, said that some people are currently experiencing problems sending messages. It is aware of the issue and is working to restore all services as soon as possible.
According to Down Detector, millions of users are affected due to WhatsApp service being down.
Down Detector received complaints from users in Europe, the Middle East and Asian countries.
It should be noted that even in October 2021, major social media services, including Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, faced massive outages, potentially affecting millions of users.
During service outages, the Down Detector alerted of service outages in major cities such as Washington and Paris.
Facebook shares fell 4.9 per cent following the hours-long outage, the biggest one-day decline since last November 2020, but improved by 0.5 per cent after services were restored.
Mike Schroepfer, Facebook’s chief technology officer, said in a tweet, ‘I apologise to the businesses, large and small, families and individuals who rely on us.’
He said that ‘100 per cent restoration of services might take some time.
