T-Mobile announced today the launch of its innovative Home Internet Backup plan. The service is designed to provide a reliable mobile broadband alternative when traditional wired internet connections fail. Aimed at enhancing connectivity security, the plan operates as a secondary internet source rather than a primary one.
The telecommunications giant currently provides unlimited broadband offerings, such as Home Internet and Home Internet Plus, to five million customers. However, the newly introduced Backup plan is tailored to act as a support system when primary services falter.
Priced at $30 per month with AutoPay, T-Mobile is offering an introductory discount that drops the price to just $20 per month for customers who also have an eligible T-Mobile voice line. The plan includes 130GB of 5G data monthly—sufficient to sustain typical household Wi-Fi needs for up to seven days per month during primary service outages.
Customers will also benefit from a complimentary 5G gateway, ensuring that the backup service can be used effectively throughout homes or offices. T-Mobile highlights the ease of setup with the new plan, promising that users can transition from unboxing to browsing in 15 minutes or less.
The launch comes in response to data from CivicScience, which indicates that nearly 20% of U.S. internet users experience connection disruptions multiple times each month. T-Mobile’s Home Internet Backup is poised to provide a safety net for those moments, bridging the gap during outages.
The service will be available starting June 6 in T-Mobile stores and online. It offers a practical solution for anyone looking to safeguard their connectivity against unexpected internet downtime.
