Samsung’s highly anticipated Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6 are one step closer to their official release, having recently completed FCC certification testing. This essential phase tested the phones’ compatibility with various technologies, including 5G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, and wireless power standards. Notably, the Galaxy Z Fold6 also includes Ultra-Wideband (UWB) capabilities.
Despite advances in wireless technology, both devices continue to support Wi-Fi 6 rather than the newer Wi-Fi 7, aligning with expectations for 2023 models but raising questions about 2024’s technology standards.
The FCC’s thorough testing protocol included evaluating the Galaxy Z Fold6 in different states—closed, half-open, and fully opened—to assess changes in antenna positions due to its unique folding mechanism. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Z Flip6 was revealed to house two batteries, offering a combined rated capacity of 3,887mAh—improving upon the previous model’s 3,591mAh.
Both the Fold6 and Flip6 have been confirmed to support 25W wired and 15W wireless charging capabilities, consistent with previous models. This indicates no increase in charging speeds this cycle.
While Samsung has not yet announced a date for its Galaxy Unpacked event, where the new mobile devices are expected to be showcased, the completion of FCC testing suggests that the official reveal could be imminent.
