Redmi, a brand traditionally known for its budget-friendly mobile devices, is making headlines with its latest offering, the Redmi K80 Pro, which is poised to redefine the “flagship killer” category in China. Despite being less recognized internationally, Redmi’s K series has consistently delivered high-performance devices that often find their way to global markets under the Poco F series branding.
The upcoming Redmi K80 Pro, set to succeed the K70 Pro launched last November, is gearing up to impress with top-tier specifications. Expected to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC, the device will also feature a high-resolution “2K” display and a substantial 5,500 mAh battery equipped with 120W fast wired charging, promising minimal downtime.
In addition to its robust performance and display specs, the K80 Pro is rumored to include an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, which offers enhanced speed and reliability over the more common optical sensors. The device is also set to upgrade its camera capabilities with a 3x telephoto lens, an improvement over the 2x telephoto found in its predecessor.
Recent reports, including a notable one from March, suggest that this shift to ultrasonic technology will also be seen in other high-profile releases this year, such as the Xiaomi 15 series and the OnePlus 13.
Industry insiders on Weibo have hinted that the Redmi K80 Pro will compete with high-end flagships regarding features. However, this might lead to a higher price point than previous series models. As the launch approaches, the tech community eagerly awaits to see if the K80 Pro can balance flagship-like features with the value proposition Redmi is known for.
