After an initial launch period, Google’s new Android Gemini app has been released in the UK and EU, expanding its availability to more users. The app is accessible for download via the Google Play Store. Gemini offers an alternative to Google Assistant, allowing users to switch to it as their primary digital assistant, though it does not permit simultaneous use with Google Assistant.
One current limitation of Gemini is its inability to control smart home devices. Google Assistant might still be preferable for users heavily integrated into smart home ecosystems. This separation of functionalities has raised questions about why Gemini wasn’t simply integrated as an upgrade to Google Assistant, reflecting Google’s sometimes complex approach to product development.
Google has announced that the Google app will introduce Gemini to iOS users shortly.
