After Elon Musk took charge of managing the microblogging website Twitter, several organizations and individuals are now eager to introduce their own alternative platforms to rival Twitter.
Facebook’s Alternative Platform
Facebook had already started working on an alternative platform to give competition to Twitter in December 2022, and later they also introduced features on Instagram that are similar to those found on Twitter.
Similarly, Twitter’s former founder Jack Dorsey and his team had also introduced the application Blue Sky as an alternative to Twitter. However, screenshots of the application in its developmental stages by Facebook have now surfaced, indicating that Facebook’s platform will be very similar to Twitter.
According to the technology website The Verge, Mark Zuckerberg’s team has been preparing the platform and making high-profile international personalities part of it to launch it.
The report states that the Twitter alternative application is still in the developmental stages, and neither its name has been finalized nor has a specific launch date been announced. Possibly, Facebook will introduce the platform ads4u in the coming months, but it is also possible that its release could be delayed for up to a year.
In the same context, the American newspaper Forbes cited reports from other institutions, including Bloomberg, stating that Facebook’s parent company Meta has already confirmed the development of an application to rival Twitter.
Project 92 and Barcelona
According to the report, currently the Twitter alternative platform, internally referred to as Project 92 and Barcelona, is being worked on by the company’s employees. This platform aims to provide users with an alternative to Twitter, specifically for smartphones.
The report also mentioned that the unique feature of Facebook’s application will be the possibility for users to potentially migrate their followers from Instagram to the new platform, enhancing the seamless transition experience for smartphone users.
Similarly, users will be able to easily share content from Instagram on the new application, but the most distinct feature will be the ability to transfer Instagram followers to the new platform.
